Ce dimanche matin, un tragique événement s’est déroulé à Muan, en Corée du Sud. Un avion de la compagnie Jeju Air, transportant 181 passagers, a connu un sort funeste lors de son atterrissage, s’écrasant avec un bilan désastreux d’au moins 122 vies perdues.
Il était 9h03, heure locale, lorsque l’appareil a glissé sur la piste, percutant brutalement une barrière en béton. Lee Jeong-hyeon, le chef des pompiers de la région, a partagé son inquiétude, déclarant : « Nous suspectons que l’accident pourrait être dû à une collision avec un oiseau ou à une dégradation des conditions météorologiques. Une enquête médico-légale et conjointe nous éclairera sur les causes exactes. »
Dans les décombres de l’avion, deux membres de l’équipage ont été secourus, blessés mais conscients, tandis que les secours s’affairaient autour d’eux. 32 camions de pompiers et plusieurs hélicoptères ont été dépêchés sur place dans une course contre la montre pour maîtriser l’incendie qui s’était déclaré après l’impact.
Plus tard, lors d’une conférence de presse à Gimpo, Kim E-bae, le PDG de Jeju Air, a pris la parole avec une profonde émotion : « Tout d’abord, je m’incline pour présenter mes excuses à tous ceux qui ont chéri Jeju Air. Avant tout, je tiens à adresser mes plus sincères condoléances aux familles des victimes. »
Cet accident tragique s’inscrit dans l’histoire des catastrophes aériennes en Corée du Sud, étant l’un des plus meurtriers depuis 1997, année où un autre accident à Guam avait coûté la vie à 228 personnes.
