Samuel Eto’o, l’illustre footballeur camerounais, a été suspendu par la FIFA pour une durée de six mois, l’empêchant d’assister à tous les matchs de l’équipe nationale. Depuis 2021, Eto’o occupe le poste de président de la fédération camerounaise de football. Cette décision fait suite à deux accusations liées à un incident survenu lors de la Coupe du Monde féminine des moins de 20 ans en Colombie, le 11 septembre.
FIFA n’a pas précisé les détails entourant le match des huitièmes de finale, où le Brésil a battu le Cameroun 3-1 après les prolongations. L’organisme a indiqué qu’Eto’o avait enfreint les règles disciplinaires liées à « un comportement offensif et des violations des principes du fair-play », ainsi qu’à des actes de mauvaise conduite de la part des officiels.
FIFA a communiqué que « l’interdiction imposée à M. Eto’o l’empêche d’assister aux matchs masculins et féminins des équipes camerounaises, quel que soit le niveau ou la tranche d’âge. » Cette interdiction est en vigueur jusqu’en mars et inclut les matchs de l’équipe nationale masculine dans le cadre des qualifications pour la Coupe du Monde 2026 ainsi que pour la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations 2025.
Samuel Eto’o, âgé de 43 ans, a eu une carrière impressionnante avec l’équipe nationale camerounaise, participant à quatre Coupes du Monde entre 1998 et 2014, à l’exception de l’édition de 2006. Il est le meilleur buteur de l’histoire des Lions Indomptables, avec un impressionnant total de 56 buts. Eto’o a également contribué à deux victoires en Coupe d’Afrique des Nations, en 2000 et 2002.
En tant qu’un des attaquants les plus talentueux du football, il a remporté trois titres de Ligue des champions : deux consécutifs en 2009 avec le FC Barcelone et en 2010 avec l’Inter Milan, renforçant ainsi sa réputation sur la scène internationale.
