Le mercredi 8 janvier, des groupes armés ont mené une offensive contre une position de l’opération Mirador, une unité de l’armée béninoise engagée dans la lutte contre le terrorisme au nord du pays. Des assaillants, lourdement armés, ont attaqué une position fortement défendue des forces de défense et de sécurité.
Les rapports font état de soldats tués et brûlés, révélant l’horreur de cette attaque. Le bilan provisoire fait état de 28 morts et de nombreux blessés. La hiérarchie militaire a confirmé l’assaut et a immédiatement appelé à la rémobilisation des troupes engagées dans cette lutte cruciale. Cette attaque est la plus meurtrière subie par l’armée béninoise depuis 2021, un acte de barbarie qui nécessite une réponse ferme.
Dans son discours sur l’état de la nation en décembre dernier, devant les députés de l’Assemblée nationale, le président Patrice Talon a lui-même reconnu que le Bénin était encore en retard dans sa lutte contre le terrorisme. Il est impératif que des mesures décisives soient prises pour protéger nos soldats et restaurer la sécurité dans le pays.
Cette tragédie ne doit pas être vaine, mais servir de catalyseur pour un engagement renouvelé et déterminé dans la lutte contre ce fléau. Le moment est venu d’agir avec vigueur et détermination.
